Tori left the study as David and Angelo discussed my new security detail. They were planning on upping the amount of demons that would accompany me when I left the house. At this point, I didn’t plan on going anywhere without Angelo.

I slipped out of the study, trying to process the events of the last twenty-four hours. It was a lot. As if we didn’t have enough going on in this house, now we were going to have a full-time demon hunter. The same demon hunter who slept with Angelo. I gazed out the window to find Tori by her car. She was on the phone, pacing and waving her hand in the air.

When I stepped onto the porch, she stared at me, and then told the caller she had to go. Once she was off the call, I joined her by her car.

“What’s up?” Tori shoved her phone in her pocket.

“I wanted to say thank you for agreeing to help Angelo.”

“Angelo is capable of handling the situation, but like I said, I can’t walk away knowing that a demon is targeting you. Your boyfriend might be a good demon, but his father is not.”

“A good demon? Is there such an animal?”

“Maybe not, but demons like Koradon have to be contained.”

“You seem to know a lot about Angelo’s heritage and how he came to be.”

“Not really.” She shrugged. “Just the basics. I researched him years ago when I thought he was my target.”

“And Scarlett?”

“What about her?”

“Did she research him too?”

“Not at all.” She straightened her posture. “Why would she?”

“When she came here, she was so eager to meet him. It struck me as odd.”

“She’s curious. Angelo is a unique demon. I used him as an example in some of her training sessions. I guess she became fixated. It won’t happen again.”

“Did you tell her about your history with him?”

“History?” She pressed her lips together. “What do you mean?”

“Angelo told me what happened between the two of you.”

“He did?”

“This is not me being a jealous girlfriend.” Although, I couldn’t help but wonder what brought her back into his life. “This situation with his father is taking so much out of him. It’s been going on for months. I know you offered your help, but if you’re not here for the right reasons, I’m going to respectfully ask you to leave.”

“You’re going to ask me to leave?”

“You’re hiding something from him and he knows it.” I didn’t want a confrontation, but Angelo was too focused on the situation with Koradon to figure out what Tori and Scarlett were doing here. “I’m not trying to pry.”

“You could have fooled me.”

“I want to make sure you’re not here to hurt him or seek some kind of revenge.”

“Revenge?” She shook her head. “Trust me, I have long forgotten about Angelo. You have no idea how much that affair with him cost me. It took years for my family to trust me again. Do you have any idea what it’s like to be the demon
